Brazilian government prohibits licensed fixed-odds betting

Regulation

Brazil’s government approved a provisional measure prohibiting fixed-odds betting, online gambling and related advertising, including activities covered by state and Federal District authorisations. The measure ends 85 authorisations for which companies paid BRL30 million each, and states that holders will not receive compensation or refunds. Players may withdraw funds until 5 October at 23:59; betting sites and apps must close from 6 October.

Operators face the termination of their authorisations, a halt to new deposits and a timetable for shutting betting services.
