Brazilian clubs consider suspending Brasileirão over betting ban

Regulation

Brazilian football clubs are discussing a possible suspension of the Brasileirão after the federal government signed a provisional measure banning betting companies and related advertising. Club officials are considering a six-month-to-one-year transition period, while Sinafut has petitioned the Supreme Federal Court to suspend the measure pending congressional or court review. The clubs are also seeking support from the Brazilian Football Confederation, which has not stated its position.

A suspension or transition could affect betting companies’ Brazilian operations and football advertising arrangements.
