Brazil tax authority launches Jogo de Sombras investigation into betting group

Enforcement & compliance

Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service and Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office launched Operation Jogo de Sombras on 28 August, targeting a sports betting business group suspected of moving more than R$5bn in 2025. The authorities carried out six search warrants in three cities, and the tax service opened 11 procedures with potential recovery of about R$300m; the report identifies NSX Brasil, owner of Betnacional, as the target.

The investigation puts operators’ potential tax exposure for activity before Brazil’s betting rules took effect in focus.
