Brazil’s National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development Giovanni Rocco presented the ministry’s work at an STF public hearing on 3 November. He cited training for 482 police officers, integrity measures and the country’s adherence to the Macolin Convention; the source links these initiatives to the regulated betting framework established by Law 14.790/2023.
Brazil's Ministry of Sport presented an account to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) on Tuesday of its work against match-fixing since November 2024. Giovanni Rocco, the ministry's National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development, gave the presentation.
Rocco was the last speaker at the public hearing held by Justice Luiz Fux. He represented Sports Minister Paulo Henrique Cordeiro.
Rocco presented the training of 482 police officers, ministry ordinances, the national integrity policy and Brazil's adherence to the Macolin Convention. A report of the hearing links these measures to the regulation of fixed-odds betting in Brazil. The report said odds monitoring is carried out by IC360, Sportradar, IBIA and Genius Sports. It also said Law 14.790/2023 allocates part of betting revenue to the sports sector.
The secretariat headed by Rocco was created during the regulation process. Rocco said illegal gambling offers are now found on social networks, in a context where everything is considered illegal. The report said Rocco acknowledged that a Brazilian competition can be the target of bets abroad and that match-manipulation networks operate in several countries.
