Brazil’s SPA opposes ban on advertising by authorised betting companies

Regulation

Brazil’s Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA) opposed banning advertisements by authorised fixed-odds betting companies, saying restrictions could make it harder for users to distinguish legal operators from illegal platforms. Deputy secretary Daniele Correa Cardoso made the case as Senate bill PL 3563/2024, which proposes banning betting advertising and sponsorship, proceeds through the Senate; the SPA said advertising aimed at children and adolescents remains prohibited.

The proposal could change how authorised operators advertise and how consumers identify regulated platforms.
