Brazil’s AGU asks Supreme Court to suspend Rio Grande do Sul betting-ad law

Regulation

Brazil’s Attorney-General’s Office asked the Supreme Federal Court to suspend Rio Grande do Sul’s Law 16.508/2026, which restricts advertising for fixed-odds betting platforms. The law is due to take full effect on 25 August 2026; the request was filed in a case brought by the National Association of Games and Lotteries, which challenges the law’s constitutionality.

The court’s decision could affect state-level restrictions on betting advertising and the law’s scheduled implementation.
