Brazil finance ministry prepares asset freezes for illegal betting operators
Brazil’s Ministry of Finance is expanding enforcement against illegal betting, including automated website blocking and planned measures to freeze operators’ assets. Ministry official Carlos Renato Resende told a Chamber of Deputies hearing that more than 60 illegal betting websites had been blocked and that blocking had been automated since October. The ministry is also working on rules concerning financial flows linked to unauthorized gambling, with publication expected this month.
Planned asset freezes and financial-flow rules could change enforcement exposure for unauthorized betting operators in Brazil.
