Brazil assigns up to 3% of federal betting revenue to police fund

Regulation

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva promulgated a law allocating part of federal sports-betting revenue to the Federal Police fund Funapol. The government said the share will rise from 1% in 2026 to 2% in 2027 and 3% from 2028; the law reallocates existing revenue and does not create a new operator tax. It also authorises up to BRL 200 million in Treasury transfers to the fund during 2026.

The law changes how existing federal betting receipts are allocated, without imposing a new tax on betting operators.
