BGC proposes five-point plan to tackle UK illegal gambling
The Betting and Gaming Council proposed a five-point plan to address illegal gambling in the UK. It called for action on illegal advertising, stronger Gambling Commission powers, payment blocking, accountability for support services and tougher criminal penalties; the BGC cited estimates that illegal-market wagers could rise from £17bn in 2025 to more than £33bn by 2028.
The proposals could affect enforcement powers and the obligations of platforms and payment providers serving the UK market.
