More than a dozen Argentine provinces have regulated online gambling under a decentralised model, with no unified national regulatory framework, according to the report. The report says there is no single national licensing regime and that each province keeps its own authority to legislate, regulate and operate online gambling within its territory.
Buenos Aires City, Buenos Aires Province, Córdoba and Mendoza are among the pioneering jurisdictions with complete regulated online gambling models, according to information from ALEA. Santa Fe has two authorised online gambling platforms and four authorised sports betting platforms, while San Juan is in the process of drawing up rules for Provincial Law 2724. Tierra del Fuego has not adopted a regulatory framework or defined an online gambling strategy, and Santiago del Estero has not reported a legalisation, although bplay announced that it would begin operating in the territory.
A bill on preventing problem gambling, which has passed the lower house, proposes restrictions on minors, advertising and sponsorships. ALEA president Ida López criticised the bill, saying that in her view it infringes provincial constitutional powers.
