Argentina government proposes criminal penalties for illegal betting support

Regulation

Argentina’s executive branch sent a four-bill package to Congress on 22 May proposing penalties for businesses that support unauthorised betting platforms, reportedly. The proposal would allow prison terms of up to four years for technology and payment providers, and up to six years for platform operators; it also proposes blocking gambling advertising and sponsorships and expanding enforcement powers. The measures require legislative approval.

If enacted, the proposal would affect betting suppliers, payment services, advertisers and sports sponsorships across Argentina.
