ANJ revamps voluntary gambling ban service with stronger identity checks

Summary

France's ANJ has launched a rebuilt online service for voluntary self-exclusion from gambling, which it says simplifies registration and strengthens identity verification. More than 85,000 people are now registered, up from 40,000 in 2021, with 19,000 registrations in 2024, according to the regulator. The ANJ said it aims to cut the effective registration delay and improve identity-check security.

Why it matters

Operators must block access for self-excluded players, and a larger, faster-registering ban file widens the scope of that obligation.
