Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) advised veterinarians and racing officials at all racetracks on 30 June 2026 to remind participants to protect horses from extreme heat. Environment Canada had issued a heat warning for Toronto and nearby areas, with dangerously hot and humid conditions expected for most of the week; racetracks should use the temperature standard to assess whether races need to be cancelled.
Racetrack operators must assess whether heat conditions require race cancellations to protect horses and participants.
