Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published 2 min read

Italy's ADM and Guardia di Finanza presented the ELDA project together with institutional and academic partners. The initiative, whose full name is Effective and Law-Compliant Data-Driven Solutions for Addressing Customs Risks, is funded by the Horizon Europe programme with almost €3m.

Reportedly, the project is intended to support reform of the European Union customs system through data-based solutions, risk analysis and cooperation between authorities. It brings together universities, public institutions and specialist companies, with the stated aim of contributing to a more modern, secure, interoperable and data-oriented European customs system, supporting fraud prevention and strengthening control capacity along international trade chains.

It was reported that the meeting was addressed by representatives of European and national institutions, academia and customs administrations. The listed speakers were Paolo Martelli, Rector of the University of Parma; Giovanni Molari, Rector of the University of Bologna; Gen. D. Giuseppe Arbore, Chief of Staff of the Guardia di Finanza General Command; and Roberto Alesse, Director of the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli.

Technical sessions were to follow on the development of the European customs reform, the use of artificial intelligence and data for risk analysis, and the results expected from the ELDA project, with participants from the European Commission's DG TAXUD and JRC and from the consortium's partner universities. The report gives no further statement from ADM, Guardia di Finanza or the project partners, and no appeal or next-step information beyond the meeting programme.
