1xCare and FEJAR agree gambling-harm support partnership in Spain

A Memorandum of Partnership has been signed by 1xCare and the Federación Española de Jugadores de Azar Rehabilitados (FEJAR), the two sides announced on 28 October 2026. Under it, the pair will work together against gambling-related harm, widen access to suitable support and push forward education on responsible gambling and practice grounded in evidence. The document creates a cooperation framework only: funding, defined services and personal-data processing each need their own written agreement, plus proportionate due diligence and the governance procedures of both organisations.

The first field the partners plan to look at is FEJAR's online therapy and support services, with the aim of helping and widening access to them, among others for people held back by distance or other obstacles to receiving help in person. This work falls under the Support and Well-Being pillar of 1xCare.

The announcement states that decisions about individual beneficiaries, along with therapeutic processes and professional methods, stay entirely with FEJAR. No support under the partnership may depend on endorsing a commercial product or operator, serve marketing or customer acquisition, or give 1xCare or any donor access to beneficiaries or a say in individual care. Confidentiality for beneficiaries and data protection are upheld under the General Data Protection Regulation. Neither side is bound exclusively, and both keep their independence.

Simon Westbury, Chairperson of 1xCare, said: "Responsible gambling is a commitment; it is non-negotiable and sits at the centre of everything we do." He described the partnership as resting on independence and on respect for what FEJAR knows best, adding that 1xCare exists to widen the reach of support for those harmed by gambling rather than to dictate its delivery.

Gerardo Rodriguez Velo, President of FEJAR, said the federation holds that halting gambling-related harm calls for firm dedication to prevention, support that is easy to reach, and the welfare of those affected and their families. In his view, the partnership lets FEJAR seek out ways to broaden access to support services while protecting its professional independence and keeping beneficiaries' needs central to its work. Westbury said 1xCare targets real, measurable improvement at every responsible player protection touchpoint and is eager to work with FEJAR and others pursuing stronger player protection.

1xCare describes itself as a responsible gambling initiative whose focus covers research, education, technology and player well-being. It runs as a non-profit, RG Practices Ltd, set up in 2026 and headquartered in Cyprus. Four pillars shape its work: the Research Hub, EduCare, TechShield and Support and Well-Being. Governance includes an independent Advisory Committee under Simon Westbury, and the organisation says it will issue impact updates on a regular basis.

Founded in 1991, FEJAR is a federation whose member organisations work on preventing and treating gambling disorder and on rehabilitating people harmed by gambling and their relatives. Through prevention, information, assistance and rehabilitation services it supports affected individuals and their families. It further promotes awareness, professional training and initiatives intended to cut gambling-related harm and widen access to support throughout Spain.
