Chile betting bill deadline extended as tax-related payment suspensions loom

Briefing · By SectorWire desk ·

Chile’s Senate extended until noon on 26 October the deadline for the government to submit amendments to the online betting bill. Separately, Senate president Paulina Núñez filed a proposal to eliminate online betting houses, with prison terms of up to 15 years and permanent judicial blocking of illegal platforms. The Segpres said the bill needed more time to build broad agreements. [1]

Subtel received three protection appeals, one lawsuit and six administrative challenges to blocks on betting sites, telecoms subsecretary Romina Garrido told a congressional committee. The SCJ said 174 illegal sites had been blocked since 19 August; Garrido said platforms rapidly switch domains to evade the order. [2] ProntoPaga said it would suspend payment services for betting platforms registered with the SII that fail to pay digital VAT; compliant clients could continue using its services. [3]

The SCJ opened a procedure for two casino licences, one reserved for Aysén and one available nationally, with bids due on 12 April 2027. [4] Separately, Estelarbet said it had added Zitro Digital’s catalogue to its online platform in Chile. [5]
