WLA calls for shared rules on illegal betting and prediction markets

Regulation

The World Lottery Association called for closer international cooperation and common safeguards against illegal gambling and unauthorised prediction markets at a seminar in Lausanne held from 24 to 26 June 2026. The WLA said prediction platforms based on sports or lottery outcomes require local licences, while European Lotteries backed national regulation and cross-border enforcement cooperation.

The proposals could shape how regulators license prediction products and coordinate action against unauthorised operators.
