Uruguayan senator proposes state online gambling platform and regulator

Regulation

Uruguayan senator Felipe Carballo of the Frente Amplio presented a proposal to regulate online gambling, including a state platform and a national regulatory agency. The proposed agency would audit operators’ algorithms, manage a national bettor register and oversee unlicensed activity, which the proposal would classify as a crime; Carballo expects debate in 2026.

The proposal could reshape online gambling oversight and the legal status of unlicensed activity in Uruguay.
