UK Gambling Commission directs regulatory settlement funds to Treasury

Regulation

The UK Gambling Commission has decided that funds from regulatory settlements with operators will go to the Consolidated Fund, with the change taking immediate effect. The Commission said the statutory levy introduced in April 2025, which raises about £100m annually, now funds research, prevention and treatment programmes; it said settlement payments are too variable to support long-term projects.

The decision changes where operators’ regulatory settlement payments go and separates them from funding for gambling-harm programmes.
