Uganda proposes 30% gambling tax under 2026 bill

Regulation

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija tabled Uganda’s Lotteries and Gaming (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes a 30% levy across betting, casinos and other gaming activities. If parliament approves it, the measure would take effect on 1 July 2026; the report says players may also face a 15% withholding tax on winnings.

Operators would face a proposed higher tax rate across Uganda’s gambling sectors if parliament approves the bill.
