In Uganda, the gaming regulator NLGRB has set a national precedent with its ISO/IEC 27001 certification. Chief Executive Officer Denis Mudene Ngabirano said: “The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board is now ISO 27001 certified.”
Chief Executive Officer Denis Mudene Ngabirano said that, as a regulator, the organisation handles very sensitive information. Senior Licensing Officer Isaac Koshaho explained that licensing work involves collecting extensive data from regulated entities and the public. Koshaho also said that matching operations, data management and IT infrastructure to the standard puts the regulator's processes at the level of global standards.
Stella Makona Simiyu, Co-founder and Managing Director of Sentinel Africa Consulting Uganda, said that measuring itself against ISO/IEC 27001 gave NLGRB an all-encompassing framework for applying best-practice controls. The article adds that the standard demands ongoing improvement and independent oversight from outside the organisation. Compliance Officer Gershom Lukwago described the main aim as protecting players by making digital gaming settings secure, transparent and able to withstand fraud.
Chief executive Denis Mudene Ngabirano urged leaders of both private companies and government bodies to take up this certification. Ngabirano also expressed thanks to staff, management, the board, the ministry of finance and implementing partner Sentinel Uganda Limited. The documentary An ISO 27001 Certification Journey was made together with Sentinel Africa.
