South Korean Supreme Court upholds data-privacy conviction in gambling case
South Korea’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by a man convicted of operating a gambling site and violating the Personal Information Protection Act. Prosecutors said he used personal details belonging to 796 customers from another gambling site to test deposits, withdrawals and game functions; the court upheld the lower-court ruling.
The ruling confirms that operators may face data-privacy convictions for using illegally obtained customer information.
