South Africa’s High Court sets aside fourth National Lottery licence award

Tenders & awards

South Africa’s High Court in Pretoria set aside the award of the fourth National Lottery licence over procedural unfairness in the minister’s decision-making process. Sizekhaya Holdings, which began operating the lottery on 1 June 2026, remains the operator while Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau reconsiders the award; the court suspended its order for one year in two six-month periods.

The ruling leaves Sizekhaya operating the lottery while the minister reconsiders the licence award.
