Philippine cybercrime centre reports 50,000 illegal gambling site blocks
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Centre told a Senate hearing that Philippine authorities had blocked at least 50,000 illegal gambling websites. CICC executive director Renato Paraiso said 95% to 97% of the sites operate overseas and proposed appointing cyber diplomats and updating mutual legal assistance treaties. Senator Win Gatchalian called for stronger laws addressing illegal operators.
Offshore hosting limits the durability of local blocks, while proposed diplomatic and legal measures could affect enforcement cooperation.
