Oklahoma lawmakers override governor’s veto of sweepstakes casino ban
Oklahoma’s Senate and House overrode Governor Kevin Stitt’s veto of Senate Bill 1589 on 14 May, voting 34-10 and 68-19. The measure was sent to the Secretary of State to be filed into law and classifies operating or supporting covered online sweepstakes casino games as a Class C2 felony. It provides for fines of $500 to $2,000 and prison terms under state felony sentencing guidelines, with charity and regulated tribal gaming exempt.
The law exposes sweepstakes gaming operators and several supporting businesses to felony liability and financial penalties in Oklahoma.
