Regulation1 min read

In brief

  • The NWGB reportedly held a staff meeting at the Mmabatho Palms Hotel and Casino.
  • A key focus was the North West Gambling Amendment Act, 2026 (Act 3 of 2026).
  • The act expands inspection powers, including administrative inspection warrants, to help address unlicensed gambling.

Employees of the North West Gambling Board (NWGB) gathered for a meeting at the Mmabatho Palms Hotel and Casino. The agenda covered the Board's strategy, its regulatory duties and the culture of its workplace. The North West Gambling Amendment Act, 2026 (Act 3 of 2026) was a main focus, as was how the Board is performing overall.

The legislation brings the province's gambling law up to date and brings it in line with South Africa's National Gambling Act, 2004. Among the changes are new definitions, amended gambling and taxation provisions, and broader inspection powers such as administrative inspection warrants, aimed at tackling unlicensed gambling.

Staff also discussed how the organisational structure can better support the Board's performance requirements. Employees received guidance on implementing the Board's Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) Manual, and internal file-planning procedures were reviewed. Discussions on respect and professional conduct reflected the Board's aim of maintaining a safe, peaceful and harmonious workplace.
