New Zealand Parliament passes online casino bill allowing up to 15 licences

Regulation

New Zealand’s Parliament passed the Online Casino Gambling Bill at its final reading, establishing a framework for online casino licensing. The law allows up to 15 licences through a competitive process, with the Department of Internal Affairs overseeing the sector. The government expects further rules on advertising, consumer protection and licensing conditions later this year.

Operators must compete for one of up to 15 licences and meet new consumer-protection requirements to serve New Zealand customers.
