New Jersey lawmakers propose 10% World Cup sports betting surcharge
New Jersey lawmakers have introduced legislation proposing a temporary surcharge on online wagers in the state tied to 2026 World Cup matches. The proposal would add 10% after winning-bet payouts are deducted, from 12 June to 20 July 2026, and would also apply to online sports betting offered by Atlantic City casinos and horse racing permit holders.
If enacted, the surcharge would change the tax burden on operators taking online bets on World Cup matches in New Jersey.
