NCLGS president urges state lawmakers to prepare for prediction-market lobbying
National Council of Legislators from Gaming States president Shawn Fluharty told tribal leaders that prediction-market companies could lobby state lawmakers if the US Supreme Court rules against their federal case for offering sports contracts. He argued that state licensing and regulation should apply, while conference chairman Victor Rocha criticised North Carolina’s planned 6% tax on net trading-fee revenue, compared with a 23% tax on online sports betting.
The debate could affect state licensing, tax treatment and competition between prediction markets and regulated sports betting.
