Messina tax court backs margin-based betting tax for Stanleybet-linked centres

Regulation

A tax court in Messina ruled that betting centres linked to Stanleybet should pay Italy's single betting tax on revenue, according to a report of the ruling. The court said the margin method covered lawful betting activity even without a connection to the national betting totalisator, contrary to the position advanced by the Customs and Monopolies Agency.

The decision supports margin-based taxation of lawful betting at linked centres, despite the agency’s opposing position.
