Italy's President Sergio Mattarella has authorised the submission to parliament of the 2027 budget bill, the Quirinale announced. The text, made up of 157 articles, has already been sent to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, which is due to begin examining it on Monday 2 November, according to the report.
For the gambling sector the bill provides for changes to the erarial levy (PREU) applied to AWP and VLT machines, amendments to the playing characteristics of slots, onerous extensions of concessions and new rules for LAN venues and video games without cash winnings, the report said.
SAPAR, AGSI and CNI said they were concerned about the additional tax pressure, warning of possible effects on the economic sustainability of businesses, particularly small and medium-sized ones, and on employment, according to the report. EGP-FIPE estimated that the increase in the levy could make the operation of at least 20% of specialist venues uneconomic.
The Movimento 5 Stelle accused the government of providing for a "condono ai signori del gioco d’azzardo", while Angelo Bonelli, a deputy of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, contested the measures on concessionaires and the increase in maximum stakes and winnings on slot machines, the report said.
Under the calendar currently envisaged, hearings are expected to be held from 5 to 12 November, and the deadline for tabling amendments could be set at 17 November, according to the report.
