Massachusetts treasurer opposes iGaming as iLottery launch approaches

Regulation

Massachusetts Treasurer Deb Goldberg opposed legalising online casinos as the state prepares to launch online lottery sales in July 2026, according to media reports. Goldberg said she was concerned iGaming advertising could undermine lottery revenue; she projected the iLottery would produce about $70 million in net profit in its first year. Lawmakers are reviewing a proposal to authorise up to nine online casinos, with a proposed 15% tax on adjusted gross revenue.

Goldberg’s position adds opposition from the state lottery’s chair as lawmakers consider an online casino proposal.
