Maine governor signs bill allowing Wabanaki Nations to operate online casinos

Regulation

Maine Governor Janet Mills signed LD 1164, authorising the state’s four Wabanaki Nations to obtain online casino licences, according to the report. The law sets an 18% tax on online casino revenue, with oversight shared by tribal and state gaming authorities. Mills said the tribal leaders she met with stressed the measure’s importance to tribal revenue and economic sovereignty.

The law creates an online casino licensing route for the four Wabanaki Nations and sets the market’s tax rate.
