Lula renews call to ban online betting as Brazil election debate looms
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva again called for online betting to be prohibited, saying it harms lower-income households. Finance Minister Dario Durigan said the government’s decision could put the sector’s future at the centre of the election debate; he also said about 70 mil illegal betting sites had been blocked since regulation began.
A possible ban could affect authorised operators’ ability to continue operating in Brazil.
