Iowa governor signs bill expanding action against unlicensed gambling

Regulation

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 2289, empowering the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to issue cease-and-desist orders and seek injunctions against unlicensed gambling, sports wagering and illegal sweepstakes operators in the state. The bill also covers unlicensed pari-mutuel wagering, advance deposit wagering and fantasy sports. Commission members may receive up to $45,000 in annual expenses, up from $30,000.

The commission gains enforcement tools against unlicensed gambling operators, including sweepstakes platforms operating in Iowa.
