Indonesian police warn World Cup could increase illegal betting

Enforcement & compliance

Indonesia’s National Police warned that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could increase illegal online gambling and football betting. Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko raised the concern at a 7 May press conference, and a statement released on 8 May said police must prepare for a possible rise. The source says gambling is illegal under Articles 303 and 303bis of the Penal Code.

Operators face heightened enforcement risk as police prepare for a possible increase in illegal betting during the tournament.
