Galveston County authorities arrest Hitchcock mayor in gambling raid
Authorities arrested Hitchcock Mayor Christopher Armacost in an investigation into illegal gambling operations in Galveston County, Texas, the report said. Sheriff Jimmy Fullen said officers seized 749 gaming machines, more than $417,000 in cash and eight firearms in raids on 20 establishments. Armacost said he would defend the charges as a private citizen; the city said it was co-operating with investigators.
The investigation concerns alleged illegal gambling at 20 venues, including a business owned by the mayor.
