EU court allows players to seek losses from unlicensed operators in Germany
The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that EU law does not prevent Germany from barring online games that lack national authorisation, even when operators hold a licence elsewhere in the EU. It said players may seek civil repayment of losses from games prohibited in their country of residence; the case concerned losses from slots and lottery between 2019 and 2021.
Operators may face civil repayment claims for losses from games prohibited in a player's country of residence.
