Entain urges UKIPO to require gambling licences for trademarks

Regulation

Entain has asked the UK Intellectual Property Office to require applicants for gambling-related trademarks to hold a UK Gambling Commission licence. The company argues that unlicensed operators can use UK trademark registrations to appear legitimate; the UKIPO said it assesses the mark’s legality and public-policy implications, rather than the applicant’s wider regulatory status.

A change could make UK trademark registration for gambling brands conditional on operator licensing.
