Entain urges UK trademark reforms for unlicensed gambling operators

Regulation

Entain urged the UK Intellectual Property Office to change trademark rules after reviewing 18 brands it believes serve UK customers without Gambling Commission approval; 14 held UK trademarks despite lacking a licence, the company said. The IPO said it had referred the concerns to its trademark policy team and would arrange a meeting, while noting that objections cannot be based solely on an applicant’s conduct.

Any rule change could affect how gambling businesses without UK licences obtain trademark protection.
