Entain urges IFR to bar sponsorship by unlicensed bookmakers
Entain urged England’s Independent Football Regulator (IFR) to use existing rules to prevent clubs in the top five divisions from receiving sponsorship money from bookmakers without a UK licence. The company argued that no further legislation or regulatory powers are needed, while clubs can still display gambling brands on shirt sleeves and elsewhere after the planned front-of-shirt logo ban takes effect next season. Entain also linked unlicensed betting promotion to illegal match streams and risks to consumers.
The IFR’s use of existing rules could limit clubs’ sponsorship income from bookmakers without UK licences.
