Dutch state secretary says ad ban would not curb illegal gambling promotions
State Secretary for Legal Protection Arno Rutte told parliament that a total ban on online gambling advertising would not affect many promotions for illegal gambling sites. He said 18% of people treated for gambling addiction in 2024 were under 25, but no specific figures link addiction to the 2021 legalisation of online gambling.
Operators would still face illegal gambling promotions on social media even if advertising by licensed businesses were banned.
