Data Room Nexus estimated that illegal online gambling in Italy generates about €20bn, based on monitoring 500 unauthorised sites, according to its report. From January to March 2026, the analysis recorded more than 4.5 million active Italian users and over 13 million visits, using Instagram and a sample of 500 sites. The observatory plans to expand its monitoring across the digital ecosystem.

Regulators and licensed operators can consider the estimated scale of illegal activity while accounting for the report’s monitoring sample.
