CPS warns Ghana scrapping betting tax contributes to GH¢13bn annual revenue loss

Regulation

The Centre for Policy Scrutiny warned that Ghana’s removal of the betting tax, alongside two other levies, is costing more than GH¢13 billion in annual revenue. The Ghana Revenue Authority disputed concerns about the fiscal impact, saying first-quarter 2026 collections reached GH¢33.7 billion, 20% above the same period a year earlier.

The opposing assessments frame the fiscal debate over removing the betting tax and its effect on public revenue.
