An Iowa Senate subcommittee rejected a draft proposal on Monday to end casino-floor smoking, according to the report. Senate File 2051 would have removed the exemption allowing casinos to permit indoor smoking under the Iowa Smokefree Air Act. The report says Sen. Tony Bisignano opposed the proposal and said smoking would end soon.
Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects asked New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to press lawmakers to vote on bills ending indoor smoking at Atlantic City casinos. A spokesperson for Murphy said he would sign a ban if legislation reached his desk; the current legislature’s term ends on 12 January 2026.
New Jersey’s Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee voted 7-0 on 16 September to recommend banning gambling adverts targeted at people showing signs of problem gambling or addiction. Kalshi chief executive Tarek Mansour backed a bill proposed by US Representative Ritchie Torres that would prohibit federal officials from trading on prediction markets tied to government or political outcomes when they possess, or could reasonably obtain, material non-public information. Kalshi said its rules already prohibit insider trading on its regulated platform; the proposal would apply to federal officials.
