Brazilian illegal betting sites remain accessible after prohibition deadline

Enforcement & compliance

At least four betting platforms remained accessible to Brazilian users on international domains on 16 October, ten days after the removal deadline, according to a CNN Brasil survey. Elijonas Maia said about 10 mil sites had been taken down since 6 October; 110 Telegram channels were blocked, reaching spaces used by about 1.3 million people. The Ministry of Justice and the Finance Ministry’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting are mapping addresses for blocking requests.

Operators can continue reaching Brazilian bettors through replacement domains, complicating enforcement of the prohibition.
