Brazil’s finance minister urges central bank to supervise fintechs over illegal betting

Regulation

Brazilian Finance Minister Dario Durigan called on the Central Bank to respond more quickly to the use of fintechs for money laundering and processing funds from illegal betting, according to a radio interview on 9 July 2026. Durigan blamed gaps in supervision under former central bank president Roberto Campos Neto, who did not respond to a request for comment. The report also reports that new minimum-capital requirements are being phased in through December 2027.

Fintech supervision and capital requirements could affect payment channels used to process illegal betting funds.
