Brazil betting ban could halt up to R$18bn in public transfers
A published analysis estimates that Brazil’s ban on fixed-odds betting could stop up to R$18bn in transfers to public bodies and federal funds by December 2029. It estimates losses of R$16.1bn under a continuation of the observed average collection rate, rising to R$18bn when scheduled rates for 2027 and 2028 are included. The estimates exclude other federal taxes paid by operators and the tax on player winnings.
The projected shortfall could affect funding for public bodies and sectors including sport, tourism and public security.
