Betting and Gaming Council urges UK action against illegal gambling market

Regulation

The Betting and Gaming Council urged the UK government, regulators, technology companies and financial institutions to adopt a five-point plan against illegal gambling. The proposals include stronger UK Gambling Commission powers to block websites and remove unlicensed apps, measures targeting payment processing and advertising, and tougher sanctions. The BGC cited forecasts that illegal-market stakes could rise from £17bn in 2025 to more than £33bn by 2028.

The proposals could affect enforcement expectations for platforms and service providers connected to unlicensed gambling businesses.
