Austria’s Supreme Court confirms possible personal liability for illegal online casino managers

Regulation

Austria’s Supreme Court ruled that managers of illegal online casinos may be personally liable for damages if they culpably breach player-protection laws, according to the report. The decision applies Austrian law and recognises the jurisdiction of Austrian courts; the report says it could also have relevance to comparable cases in Germany.

The ruling may expose managers, as well as operators, to claims linked to breaches of Austrian player-protection rules.
